Roya Afsharzada established RIS in June 2020, building upon a diverse and accomplished career. Her work spans various managerial and financial roles across both the nonprofit and corporate sectors. With a solid educational background and a passion for empowering others, Roya has been making a significant impact.

 

Having received a scholarship from the Fulbright Program in 2009, Roya moved from Afghanistan to the United States as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant. Over the years, she has continued to expand her knowledge and expertise through prestigious educational institutions. Alongside her Bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from Brandman University in 2014, she earned an MBA from California State University, Monterey Bay, in 2018. Roya further bolstered her credentials by graduating from Berkeley University with a certificate in cybersecurity in 2023, demonstrating her commitment to this critical area.

 

Roya's impressive professional journey includes collaborating with notable organizations like All May See Foundation, an affiliate of the University of California San Fransico, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, Easterseals Central California, International Rescue Committee, Catholic Relief Services, FINCA International, UNAMA, International Committee of the Red Cross, and Médecins Sans Frontières.

 

Amidst her impressive achievements, Roya has been recognized and appreciated for her dedication. Notably, she received a letter of appreciation from President Barack Obama in 2015 and a certificate from the Defense Language Institute in 2011.

 

Roya's dedication extends beyond these affiliations. She is committed to empowering the younger generation, particularly women, to excel in their education and careers.
