Finance/Accounting: Entry-Level

During your three-month internship at RIS, you will learn the fundamentals of accounting for entry-level positions and gain experience with the following:

 

  • Booking and documenting transaction details

  • Recording day-to-day financial transactions and completing the posting process

  • Verifying that transactions are recorded in the correct daybook, supplier ledger, customer ledger and general ledger

  • Bringing books to the trial balance stage

  • Processing accounts payable/accounts receivable

  • Fact-checking accounting data

  • Notifying senior staff of any accounting errors

Finance/Accounting: Intermediate-Level

Once you pass the entry-level practical exam, you will be able to advance to the next internship level, where you will learn about some of the finer details involved in finance and accounting.

 

During your three-month internship at RIS, you will gain the abilities and training required for intermediate-level accounting positions, including the following:

 

  • Preparing journal entries and synthesizing common ledgers for subsidiary accounts, and analyzing GL accounts regularly

  • Monitoring and implementing all accounts payable/accounts receivable check activations and wire transactions

  • Monitoring account reconciliations and assisting internal staff in the account reconciliation process

  • Administering bank transactions and overseeing data recordings and reconciliations

  • Developing and delivering reports for recurring needs and special projects; supporting audits with schedules as needed

  • Assisting in the evaluation of current methods and processes inclusive of the upgradation of process development

  • Performing monthly GL accounting close tasks, including but not limited to preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned areas that may include cash, fixed asset, bonus accrual, expense accrual, deferred rent, commissions accrual, deferred commissions, stock-based compensation and equity roll forward

  • Reviewing monthly payroll entries and working closely with the Senior Payroll Manager and HR to reconcile payroll and benefits related accounts

  • Ensuring the timely delivery and accuracy of journal entries and reconciliations

  • Partnering with business owners and the FP&A team in preparation of journal entries as needed

  • Researching and resolving discrepancies between the GL and supporting documentation for assigned areas

  • Contributing to the monthly flux analysis & providing variance analysis for expense accounts

  • Supporting internal and external audits and ad hoc projects as needed

Finance/Accounting: Advanced

Once you pass the intermediate-level practical exam, you will be able to advance to the next internship tier, where you will learn more about the complexities involved in finance and accounting.

 

During your three-month internship at RIS, you will develop the accounting skills necessary for advanced-level roles, including the following:

 

  • Interpreting and applying GAAP and other authoritative accounting standards

  • Owning the month-end close process, including preparing account reconciliations, overhead allocations, and journal entries while ensuring records and financial statements are in compliance with US GAAP

  • Building an accounting team and managing a growing staff

  • Maintaining an internal control environment to ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures for general accounting operations

  • Reviewing AR and AP to ensure accurate revenue recognition and characterization of expenses

  • Managing external auditors, valuation experts and other third-party experts

  • Preparing materials for management reviews

  • Leading, participating in, or performing ad hoc projects or other related duties as required

  • Receiving general direction and working independently to meet deadlines in accordance with established guidelines and procedures

  • Providing clerical support for assigned departments

  • Opening, sorting and analyzing all incoming mail to determine proper handling

  • Maintaining all departmental filing systems

  • Utilizing computer systems for inputing and retrieving data

  • Providing secretarial/clerical relief for receptions and performing all other duties as required

  • Constructing and implementing plans to ensure the company’s network continues to operate smoothly in the event of a problem

  • Staying up-to-date with new network technology and reporting this information to the executive team each quarter

  • Working closely with other department managers to assess the growth needs and maintenance of the company’s network
